What is a MUD ?
MUD stands for Multi-User Dungeon (or some such equivalent). A mud is a text based game played thru a client such as Mudsy, Zmud, Gmud or Telnet. It is a realm of monsters and a multitude of human players all wrapped up in a world of fantasy.

This page is dedicated to this pastime and provides links and information about some of the best muds out there.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD MUD ?
This is so personal its hard to say, but start with value for money :) There are many totally free mud's out there, no one need play on a mud that costs them money if they don't wish to, so this page will only deal with free mud's. In fact, it also excludes mud's that ask/request/demand donations. These tend to be extremely annoying muds and my advice to you is get off as soon as possible, there will certainly be a better totally free mud out there that won't pester or annoy you in any way for money. After that it gets harder. I my opinion a large player base is a good thing. It adds atmosphere and proves a muds popularity. The only thing you have to watch out for here is muds that have a gateway from some large network, this tends to generate large player numbers but doesn't necessarily equate to a good mud. Then you come to features. These vary a bit and depend totally on personal taste, but clans, questing, global questing, wars, lasertag and the rest certainly help.
